The photo(s) and notes below describe the Onyx engraving style from 1974-1976:

Onyx Trumpet (SN 291567) In Reynolds’ last decade, all instruments and models were similarly engraved: a large lowercase “reynolds” with the model name and “Made in USA” in smaller uppercase lettering underneath.
  • Black Onyx shades the sound with a deep, dark tone that delivers more soul than any other instrument could ever handle. And beneath the Onyx surface is a rich, nickel-plated brass core. It colors the sound even more with a bright, brilliant tone quality that compliments the dark Onyx sound beautifully. (1974 catalog)
